Linc Cymru

Joyner Group were instrumental in the upgrade of social housing in Linc Cymru, using new technology to achieve net zero goals

Joyner Group have carried out dramatic improvements to insulation levels to homes that are typically 100 years old and make up one-third of all housing stock in Wales. Homes like those in the Linc Cymru project represent the greatest challenges when meeting energy performance standards, being poorly insulated and cold. In their current state, the homes cost tenants’ large amounts in energy bills, and have a significant impact on the environment.

The pilot study on four houses will see each fitted with a selection of energy saving and energy efficiency technologies. These include speparately

  • An air source heat pump paired with solar PV and battery storage

  • An infrared heating system with solar panel PV and battery storage

  • New gas boiler

  • Infrared heating panels and MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation Heating Recovery) system

In addition, each property benefitted from

  • EWI to the rear elevation

  • IWI at the front of the houses

  • New kitchens and bathrooms

  • new doors and triple-glazed windows

  • insulation in the loft, walls and underfloor to prevent heat escape

  • PV (photovoltaic) solar panels to generate electricity

  • additional new technology including insulating paint – said to bring the same benefits as 50-75mm of wall insulation

  • intelligent energy systems

The project was completed in Spring 2023 with each home brought back to lettable standard. They will provide a warm, comfortable and energy efficient environment for tenants who have previously experienced homelessness and are now living in temporary accommodation, or who are fleeing the war in Ukraine.
